Over 300 village artists gathered in Colombo in 1989 to present the Cultural Survival-sponsored Festival of Lanka. |
Festival of Lanka Cultural Survival celebrated its formation in 1989 with an unprecedented display of educational festivity that brought together over 300 performing artistes from Sri Lanka's rural interior to present their authentic traditions to urban Sri Lankans in the heart of Colombo on the 11-acre grounds of the Taj Samudra for three days.
Others have since imitated -- but never equaled -- this cultural extravaganza made possible by Cultural Survival's grass roots base of support extending the length and breadth of island Lanka.
